Security forces carried out separate operations that left 18 terrorists killed in KP and Balochistan, state media reported on Wednesday, citing security sources. The operations took place in North Waziristan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and in Mastung district in Balochistan.
Details of the 18 Terrorists Killed in KP and Balochistan Operations
Daily Pakistan reported that security forces carried out an intelligence based operation in North Waziristan under the Azm e Istehkam initiative and killed 13 militants. Security sources said the movement of the group was monitored before forces acted against their positions.
In Balochistan, Daily Pakistan reported that forces acted under Operation Radd ul Fitna 3 and killed five terrorists in the Siyapast and Killi Gashtari areas of Mastung. Pakistan Observer reported that weapons and ammunition were recovered from the militants killed there.
Which Groups Were Targeted
The Express Tribune reported that those killed belonged to Fitna al Khawarij and Fitna al Hindustan, labels used in state media reports. Daily Excelsior, citing Radio Pakistan, said the 13 killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were Fitna al Khawarij militants. Dawn also reported that Pakistan TV identified the five killed in Mastung as members of Fitna al Hindustan.
Recent Operations Before the Latest Engagements
The latest report follows a series of similar announcements. Dawn reported that a day earlier, security forces killed five terrorists in another intelligence based operation in North Waziristan. Daily Pakistan added that two others were injured in that operation.
According to Dawn, security forces killed seven terrorists in North Waziristan on October 2 and four in Dera Ismail Khan on September 28. Dawn also reported that two terrorists were killed in Chagai on September 29. The military’s media affairs wing said on September 27 that more than 71 terrorists had been killed in Shaban and other areas of Balochistan over the previous 96 hours.
Will the Operations Continue in KP and Balochistan?
Security sources say they will. Daily Pakistan reported that forces are continuing search and clearance activities in the affected areas to find any remaining militants, and that the operations will carry on as part of efforts to end the terrorist threat.
The operations came as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called for stronger efforts against terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The prime minister said curbing terrorism was essential for the province to develop alongside other regions, and he recognised the sacrifices of its people.
