Readers have a right to know who pays for the news they read. This page explains who owns Tamrah News and where our money comes from. It also says what the people who provide that money are allowed to do and what they are not allowed to do. We update it whenever something changes. If you find a gap or an error here, tell us and we will fix it.
Who owns Tamrah News
Tamrah News is owned by Tamrah Global LLC, Limitied Liability Company registered in United States of America. The company was founded in 2021. No political party, government body, religious organisation or elected official holds shares in the company or sits on its board. No one who works in our newsroom owns a stake in a business we cover on a regular basis.
The owner provides the legal structure and the working capital that keep the newsroom running. The owner does not choose which stories we pursue and does not read stories before they go out. Coverage decisions belong to the editor in chief and the editors who report to that role. If an owner ever tried to steer our reporting the editor in chief is expected to refuse and to tell readers what happened.
How the newsroom stays independent
Our editorial staff works separately from the people who sell advertising and raise money. Reporters do not attend sales meetings. Sales staff do not attend story meetings. A reporter who learns that a story might affect a current advertiser or donor reports that fact to the editor in chief so the decision can be made in the open. The story runs the same way it would have run otherwise.
The board of directors meets every quarter to review finances and long term plans. It does not review coverage. Board members agree in writing that they will not contact reporters about individual stories. Any board member who breaks that agreement can be removed by a vote of the remaining members.
When the newsroom makes a mistake we correct it on the story itself and note the change at the bottom of the page. Funding relationships have no effect on how we handle corrections.
How we are funded
Tamrah News earns money from four sources. Each one is described below so that readers can judge for themselves how it might shape our work. We do not accept money from any source that asks for a say in our coverage.
Advertising
Advertising pays for a large share of our daily costs. Ads appear in set positions on our pages and are labelled as advertising. Advertisers buy space and nothing else. They cannot see stories ahead of time and they cannot request changes after a story is live. If an advertiser pulls its spending because of something we published we will not alter the story. We turn down advertising for products that are illegal and for campaigns that spread claims we know to be false.
Reader support
Readers who choose to subscribe or donate give us the most independence of any funding source because they ask for nothing except good reporting. Reader contributions pay for our regional coverage and for the courts and local government reporting that rarely attracts advertisers. We never share the names of subscribers or donors with advertisers or other outside parties. Contributions of any size are treated the same way and no donor gains influence over our work.
Grants
We apply for grants from foundations and public interest organisations that support local journalism. A grant is accepted only when it is given for a defined purpose such as a reporting project or a training programme. The funder has no role in choosing subjects or sources or conclusions. Each grant is listed on this page with the name of the funder and the amount and the purpose. We publish the full agreement when the funder allows it and we decline the grant when it does not.
Events and partnerships
We sometimes run public events and reporting partnerships with universities or other news organisations. Ticket sales and sponsorships from these events help cover the cost of the work. When a partner shares the cost of a project we name that partner on every story that comes out of it. Partners have no say over what is published beyond the practical details of timing and format.
What funders cannot do
Every person or organisation that gives us money is told the same rules before any payment is made. A funder cannot do any of the following:
- Read or approve a story before it is published
- Ask for a story to be changed or removed after publication
- Decide which reporter covers a topic
- Receive advance notice of coverage that concerns them
- Use their support for us in marketing as a sign that we endorse them
We refuse donations from anonymous sources above a set limit. We also refuse money from any person or organisation that is the subject of an active investigation by our newsroom. If a funder breaks these rules we return the unspent portion of the money and end the relationship. We would also tell readers why.
Sponsored content
We run sponsored content only when it is clearly marked with the word Sponsored at the top of the page and in any social media preview. It is produced by the advertiser or by a studio that is separate from the newsroom. Our reporters and editors do not write it. It never appears as a news item in our feeds and it uses a different layout from our journalism. Sponsored pieces stay out of breaking news pages and election coverage. Readers who believe a piece is not labelled clearly enough can write to us and we will review it.
Conflicts of interest
Every member of staff completes a disclosure form each year. The form asks about investments and outside work and family ties to people or organisations we cover. A reporter with a close connection to a story steps away from it. Gifts above a small value are returned and meals paid for by sources are not accepted. Freelancers who write for us follow the same rules.
When we report on our owner or a major funder or an advertiser we say so in the story. The readers should never have to guess about a relationship that might affect how a story is read.
Changes and questions
This page was last updated on 1 October 2026. We review it every six months and whenever our ownership or major funding changes. Earlier versions are kept on request.
Questions about who owns us or who funds us can be sent to info@tamrahnews.com or visit contact us. We answer within ten working days. If you think a funding relationship has affected our coverage send us the story and your reasons. The editor in chief reads every message of this kind personally.
