The Tamrah News volunteer contributor programme is a three month remote opportunity for graduates and students who want to publish real work on an independent media and broadcasting platform. Choose the role that fits your skills and build a portfolio that employers can see.
About the programme
Tamrah News gives emerging voices a place to share informed perspectives and stories on politics, diplomacy, war, business, markets, democracy, development and other public interest issues. We are hiring for three roles: Writers, Storytellers and Content Creators. Freelance media students and intern media students are welcome.
You choose your own stories. Nobody assigns you a topic. You can create up to 5 pieces of content per week. You upload your work through your own publisher account on our website. Our editorial team reviews every piece before it goes live. Once a piece is approved its publication is guaranteed.
Duties for all contributors
Submit original work only and use no AI tools to write, generate or edit it
Upload your work through your publisher account for editorial approval
Revise your work based on editor feedback if needed
Credit your sources and follow our standards on accuracy, fairness and consent
Stay connected with the team through the programme via provided channels of communications
Writer
Suited to: any degree, especially Journalism, Mass Communication, English, Political Science, Economics, Law and Social Sciences
People have interest in content related Socio Culture Themes, Women, Art and Society are welcome to represent their view.
Choose a category you know well such as politics, business, technology, health, culture or world affairs
Write original articles and opinion pieces of 600 to 1,200 words in your chosen category
Pick your own stories and topics
Support your argument with reliable sources
End every opinion article with the author disclaimer line
Send a third person biography of 30 to 60 words with your first article
Storyteller
Suited to: Film, Photography, Videography, Digital Media and Visual Communication
Choose the stories you want to cover and tell them through video, photography or visual reports
Videographers cover stories on video and photographers cover them in images
Pick your own stories and topics
Add subtitles to every video and captions to every image
Write a short context note of 100 to 300 words that lists your sources
Get permission from identifiable people and take extra care with children and vulnerable people
Use only original or licensed music and footage and credit every source
Content Creator
Suited to: Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Animation and Digital Media
Design original graphics, illustrations and visual content in your own style
Choose your own subjects and concepts
Deliver finished high resolution files that we can publish
Credit every licensed asset and font
Keep your designs accurate and fair when they relate to real events or people

Requirements
Recent graduate or current student in any field
A clear point of view and good research habits
Ability to meet weekly deadlines
Strong written English for writers or a strong portfolio sample for storytellers and content creators
No professional experience required. A strong sample matters more than a long CV.

This is an unpaid volunteer programme and is not an offer of employment. All work must be your own original work. No AI tools may be used to write, generate or edit submitted work. Opinions in published work belong to the individual author or creator and do not necessarily represent the views of Tamrah News.
