Pakistan’s army chief has arrived in Iran to revive stalled talks with Washington, while a report says Tehran’s security council secretary declined to see him and oil prices rose.

The Asim Munir Tehran visit has met a reported obstacle after a report attributed to Tabnak said Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, refused to meet the Pakistan army chief. Munir reached the Iranian capital on Tuesday to try to revive stalled Iran US negotiations, while Brent crude climbed above $110. Tamrah News could not independently confirm the refusal.

Who Is Munir Meeting in Tehran?

Iranian state television said Field Marshal Asim Munir arrived with a delegation of Pakistani officials, and it is his fifth trip to Iran since the June agreement, Arab News reported. ISNA said he was expected to meet Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and the Supreme National Security Council secretary, according to AFP reporting. The visit is part of Pakistan mediation efforts, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov visited Tehran a day earlier.

Background to the Asim Munir Tehran Visit

The National reported that Fars said the trip looked unlikely until Sunday and was finalized on Monday as crude approached $110 a barrel. Fars also quoted a senior source who said earlier mediator visits helped lower oil prices without any progress in negotiations, and that this visit aims to reassure markets rather than signal a breakthrough.

Samaa reported that parliamentary committee spokesperson Ebrahim Rezaei Ghashghavi described the visit as part of bilateral relations and border cooperation, playing down talk of a new mediation push.

Oil Prices Push Brent Crude to a Five Month High

According to Reuters, carried by Yahoo Finance, Brent settled at $109.86 on Friday, the highest since May 19, as attacks near the Strait of Hormuz raised supply fears. Benzinga reported an intraday high of $110.97 on Monday. National Herald said Brent reached $110.08 on Tuesday, with Kpler counting at least 18 vessels attacked in two weeks.

Will Mohsen Rezaei Meet the Pakistan Army Chief?

Tamrah News found no official Iranian statement confirming either a refusal or a meeting. Rezaei did meet Munir on August 24, when Mehr News reported he voiced distrust of the US and said Washington must take practical steps on the Islamabad memorandum. Geo News reported that Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said peace between the US and Iran needs patience and trust.

What Iran Is Saying About US Iran Talks

Iran International reported that Reuters, citing senior Iranian officials, said Tehran is deliberately prolonging talks before the November 3 midterms while preparing for possible renewed strikes. The National reported that Iran’s proposal would reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days in exchange for lifting the US maritime blockade and releasing frozen assets. Araghchi said on Sunday the offer remains on the table, Geo News reported.

The National also reported that Rezaei warned undersea cables, data centers and AI sites could be attacked if hostilities with the US resume. Armed forces chief Ali Abdollahi said, “If a new war is launched against Iran, its fire will engulf everyone,” per Iran International.
